The incident occurred with 3:07 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Warriors’ 110-106 win over the Rockets.
Curry made a 3-pointer, contested by Rockets forward Terrence Jones when the flop happened.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr said he was surprised about the fine.
“These plays happen eery day,” Kerr said. “I don’t think a game goes by where Jamal Crawford doesn’t flop 15 times on his 3-point shots. That’s part of the game and I don’t blame him for it. Russell Westbrook does it. Everybody does it. So all of a sudden just randomly to fine Steph just seems kind of strange. It’s like they are singling out one time when in every single game half the guys on the floor. It seems random.”
Kerr said that he hasn’t gone back at looked at the violation, but said that it’s probable that Curry did flop.
“I didn’t ask him,” Kerr said. “But it’s a part of the game. You go up, the guy challenges you on a shot – and I understand the league wants to get rid of it – but my point is why let all the other ones go.”
