He was born in Salem, a son of the late Elgin G. Johnson and Alice Gallihar Johnson, and had been an area resident all of his life. He was employed as a hardware salesman with both Nelson Roanoke Corporation and Northwest Hardware in a career that spanned over 56 years, and was a member of both Hollins Road Church of the Brethren and Fort Lewis Christian Church. He enjoyed gardening, working around the house, and was a real people person, giving his friends and acquaintances a real ribbing whenever the chance arose. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his daughter, Renee Grubb; two grandchildren, Sarah Grubb and Joshua Grubb; a brother, Otis Johnson and wife Mamie; his sister, Norma Lee Bowles and husband, Kenneth; his faithful companion, Teenie; and numerous nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at the Chapel of John M. Oakey Son, Salem. The Rev. Terry Elkins will officiate. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at the funeral home.
