First Lady of Guatemala stops in Charlotte

CONNECT 14 TWEETCOMMENTEMAILMORECHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The First Lady of Guatemala paid a visit to Charlotte to say thank you for saving lives in her country. A partnership between the Heineman Foundation and Carolina Heath Care sends lives saving medical equipment to countries in need.
"It's life-saving, it's impactful and it changes you as a person when you see it and work in it," said Heineman Foundation Executive Director, Theresa Johnson.
The pictures say it all, saving babies lives. And it's make enough of an impact to bring the First Lady of Guatemala,nueva camiseta atletico de madrid 2013, Leal de Perez, to Charlotte to say thank you.
"I have personally come to thank the Heineman Foundation for all the computers equipment and hospital equipment they have provided to Guatamala," said First Lady,camiseta seleccion de brasil 2014, Leal de Perez.
We're talking about the Heineman Foundation's partnership with Carolina Heath care to create International Medical Outreach. They provide much needed medical equipment to countries in desperate need. Theresa Johnson is the executive director and in Guatemala it's not just medical supplies, its life-saving equipment like incubators in medical facilities.
"To see intensive care units where there were none or see intensive care units that aren't nearly what we would see in the United States," said Johnson.
Statistics unimaginable.
"They only had two incubators for 100 babies and they were broken so the mortality rate in that single hospital was 62 %," said Heineman Foundation Board Member, Manuel Rodriguez.
Enter the Outreach program, and miracles are made.
"Heineman comes in donates 10 incubators and we immediately reduce the mortality rate by 60 percent,camiseta seleccion espa?ola fabregas, " said Rodriguez.
The IMO program's recently donations of infant beds, warmers, other equipment to a neonatal intensive care unit in Guatemala's Hospital Regional de Cobán. Since the equipment installation in January, infant mortality in the unit has decreased by half.
The first lady's visit has gained much deserved attention for a foundation doing the work for years, but not in the public eye.
"Heineman has been doing magnificent work since the 1960's,numeros de las camisetas de los jugadores del real madrid, they're based here in Charlotte they have a focus on Central America and really very few people know about it," said Rodriguez.
