Texans release RBs Brown, Johnson, Cornett
The Texans have released running backs Andre Brown, Dennis Johnson and Tim Cornett.
Brown, 27, was expected to be Arian Foster’s backup this season.
Cornett attended North Shore High School and was a longshot to make the team.
and rookie Alfred Blue recently surpassed Brown on the depth chart, and the fifth-year pro didn’t take the field last Saturday during a 32-0 preseason road loss to Arizona.
Texans coach Bill O’Brien recently said Brown was left out of action because the team didn’t get enough offensive repetitions.
With Foster again missing practice Monday, Grimes was the team’s primary back during practice and Blue followed in the rotation, while Brown was rarely used.
Brown was low key Monday when asked about his status with the team.
“Whatever happens, happens, man,” Brown said. “I’m not even going to sit here and stress or anything. You throw me out there, I’ll show what I am capable of doing and that’s it.”
Brown rushed for 492 yards and three touchdowns last season with the New York Giants. But the fourth-round pick of the 2009 NFL draft played in just eight games and has struggled with injuries throughout his career.
