PICO RIVERA, Calif. (AP) — A wanted parolee who took a woman hostage and held sheriff s deputies at bay for eight hours was killed Saturday along with the woman s husband, who died in a shootout, authorities and witnesses said.
Cedric Ramirez, 24, died after a Los Angeles County sheriff s SWAT team stormed the home in the Los Angeles suburb of Pico Rivera around 1:30 a.m.,True Religion Jean Outfit, a Los Angeles County sheriff s statement said.Ramirez, a gang member with local ties, was wanted for car theft and being an ex-felon in possession of a gun, authorities said. He ran when deputies tried to arrest him around 5:30 p.m. Friday.Ramirez went to the rear of a nearby home,True Religion Jeans On Sale, where he traded gunfire with deputies, then broke a window and crawled inside, authorities said.Deputies went to the front door to get the homeowners out. That s when the suspect started shooting at (police) from inside the house, so they returned fire,True Religion Jeans Women, sheriff s Lt. John Corina told KABC-TV.A 54-year-old man outside the home was struck, although it wasn t immediately clear whether he was hit by gunfire from the gunman or deputies.Deputies managed to pull him from the doorway, but he died at the scene.The man s 60-year-old wife was rescued after the standoff ended and wasn t injured, authorities said.
