2014 Panini Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary Baseball looks back on the history of Cooperstown with a product that combines autographs, rarity and several familiar brands.
Boxes, which come with 12 total cards, are led by a pair of autographs. They're joined by a handful of inserts that long-time collectors should recognize (or those who got some ) and a handful of low-numbered base cards.
Depending on how you look at it, the 2014 Panini Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary Baseball checklist has either 100 cards or 300 cards. There are 100 players. Each has a regular card and a pair of variations. Chasing all will be a challenge as base cards are numbered to just 75 copies.
All 300 cards also have five levels of parallels, which if you add them all up together are more plentiful than the regular versions. The parallel rainbow has Red (#/50), Blue (#/25), Green (#/10), Gold (#/5) and Black (1/1).
The majority of ink comes from Hall of Fame Signatures. These are a carryover from and . As the name suggests, all signers are Hall of Famers. The checklist has 100 cards and this time out they come with parallels: Red (#/75), Blue (#/25), Green (#/10), Gold (#/5) and Black (1/1). The set also has 20 HOF Dual Signatures cards that are numbered to 5.
Spread across the entire production run are more than 500 buyback autographs that deliver on-card signatures on old cards. Among the signers are Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio and Stan Musial.
Every case of 2014 Panini Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary Baseball has a HOF Cut Signatures card. Ty Cobb, Jackie Robinson, Honus Wagner and Roberto Clemente are among the major autographs.
Another case hit are Emerald cards. These 100 cards come with Sapphire (#/15), Emerald (#/10) and Diamond (1/1) gems embedded in them.
Crusade makes its debut in a retired-only player product. Combining to land two per box, there are 100 in the set. Parallels include Red (#/75), Purple (#/50), Orange Die-Cut (#/25), Gold Die-Cut (#/10), Green Die-Cut (#/5) and Black Die-Cut (1/1). Die-cut Crusades are considered a case hit.
Several Hall of Famers have had Diamond Kings subset cards before, but only during their playing days. Done on canvas card stock, they're inserted two per box. Like most parts of the set, there are 100 cards in the insert set. Five levels of parallels are numbered to 75 or less.
The final inserts in 2014 Panini Hall of Fame 75th Anniversary Baseball both fall under the Elite name. Elite Series and Elite Dominator are both 40-card inserts that land two per box. Parallels for each include Gold (#/25) and Black (1/1).
