After the cocktail hour, the Miami-Dade chapter of the alumni association will host a casual networking social in Fate Lounge at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach.On game day Saturday, the Miami-Dade chapter will host the second leg of the recruitment tour at 9 a.m. in the historic Lyric Theater in Overtown. The program will include honoring all male educators from the South Florida area and recognizing those who work as school counselors and college assistant advisers.The tour will close with the Rattler Strike in the Gardens tailgate and pregame celebration at the Betty T. Ferguson complex at 199th Street, a few blocks from SunLife Stadium, where the FAMU vs. UM game will be held. The pregame celebration is sponsored by the city of Miami Gardens and is expected to draw hundreds of Rattler fans and supporters. This is a really big weekend for Rattlers in South Florida, said Denetra Collins, president of the Miami-Dade chapter. It is the first time we have had several events surrounding the game that Rattlers and supporters of all ages can enjoy. Miami Gardens Councilman David Williams Jr. said the events are intended to bring together our community, where we have many Rattlers living and working. He said the weekend of events is a homecoming of sorts, where we have the opportunity to see Rattler football right here in our city with friends and family. Williams, along with Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert, Annie Neasman, president and CEO for the Jessie Trice Community Health Center, and former Miami-Dade county commissioner Betty T. She also directs one of South Florida s most popular wedding bands, Iris and Company. In addition to the clothes giveaway, students also received a day of pampering that included makeovers and other activities. Communities in School of Miami is the regional affiliate of the nation s leading dropout prevention program, which provides services to more than 20,000 at-risk students in Miami-Dade County.Style Saves was founded in 2011 by Ford Fashion stylist Rachael Russell and a group of philanthropic fashion-minded young professionals. The group raises funds to provide underprivileged students with new school clothes.
