'It goes to show there's a lot of good people out there'
Nemis said Charlie Hogan from Scotchtown then contacted him to let him know the money for the iPad had been covered. Hogan gave the woman $50 plus a $50 gift certificate from Future Shop. Marie Osmond, formerly of New Waterford and now of Prince Edward Island, contributed the rest needed.
Hogan said although he didn't know Axworthy, the sad story caught his eye.
"She was getting it for him for Easter. What would happen if he had opened it on Easter and then the cops showed up at their door? The young fellow would have been traumatized. We have to help each other out around here."
Axworthy said she was overwhelmed and is grateful to Osmond and Hogan for their help.
"I'm so appreciative to them and the others who had offered to help," she said.
"If my son had opened the iPad Easter morning and then the police came an hour later, he would have been devastated."
Desiree Vassallo, spokeswoman for the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, said police recovered a stolen iPad in New Waterford on Jan. 25.
"It had been previously reported stolen to police earlier in the week, on Jan. 21."
Vassallo said the actual owner of the iPad later saw it listed for sale on Kijiji.
"Police then followed up on that information. That's how they were able to track the iPad to the location in New Waterford, to the person who had purchased it from the Kijiji ad, not knowing of course they had purchased a stolen product."
Police have returned the iPad to the original owner in Sydney.
Vassallo said the person who sold the iPad through the ad has not yet been located and the investigation is ongoing,2014 authentic cheap mlb jerseys to Buy from China.

There are many studies that show the iPad helps students succeed in school. Unsurprisingly, the research found that iPad equipped students not only excel in everyday learning of material, but that students with iPads also do better on tests. They have also helped kids with reading problems. There are many learning apps on iPads for children. So maybe it is a better choice than some "gaming system" either way it is the choice of the parent. And as far as meeting in a parking lot I'm a girl as well and would much rather meet in a public place as said before. Starting Easter shopping this early is in fact very smart. The only bad person in this story is the scammer the guy that sold her a stolen iPad he is the one people should be looking at anything else is just ignorant. Other than some of the horrible comments this is a great story of people coming together to help somebody.
My god you ppl that are being negative and trying to say a iPad mini is too great a purchase for a nine year old boy, we'll for one just b/c you were and prob. Still are deprived technology, you would know Apple offers great learning and fun gaming apps for children, if you even know what a app is, leave this women alone great ppl stepped up to help her, and you almost sound jealous, as if you wouldn't want to save money if possible, hope the boy gets MacBook for his 10th Easter, get a hobby you trolls.
To all the people saying negative things about someone's parenting for buying an iPad: how's the weather in the 1950s? Must be nice, considering you think everything about the way you think is not only right but key to being a good person. You're, in actuality, just a bunch of shining examples of how carbon can be put to much more useful things than some asinine wad with access to the Internet (in case you're an idiot,I called you a waste of life)
Leave Diane alone. You are all self righteous pieces of trash.
1st thing: Why is a 9 year old getting an ipad? They should get a Gaming system. Might as well just give them a laptop. This generation is very spoiled but on the other hand I wish I had a mother that got me a Big computer back in the 90s, but back then it is stupid for someone that "young" to have such a piece of technology. And people wonder why they get mad or talk about kids never going outside to play. Duh Endless crap to do on computer, Gaming systems is a medium to playing VS going outside. >>dont you agree?
TO THOSE PEOPLE WHO MADE THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS,THIS IS 2014 WE TRY TO DO THE BEST FOR OUR CHILDREN, ALSO YOUR CONCERNS ARE MATERIAL WHAT ABOUT DIANE HERSELF? SHE TRUSTED THAT GUY AND WAS ONLY THINKING ABOUT HER BOY AT EASTER, COME ON PEOPLE SHE DID NOT ASK FOR THIS CRIME, AGAIN SHE DID WHAT A LOT OF US WOULD HAVE DONE FOR OUR CHILDREN, UNTIL YOU WALK IN HER SHOES YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMMENT ABOUT IT, AND HOW DARE YOU PEOPLE TO JUDGE,I HOPE YOU NEVER HALF TO GO THROUGH ANYTHING LIKE SHE DID . I HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY AND KEEP SMILING CHEERS XOXOXO TO DIANE
The world we live in today includes IPads and D3's, There's Xbox and Play Station and yes there is hockey and golf and bowling too! Parents do what they feel is best for their child to both grow and fit in. Unfortunately there are also scammers and schemers out there and honest people fall into the trap sometimes I am sure she won't again As for priorities well Mark planning this far out and budgeting for Easter is in my estimation pretty good prioritizing you likely don't know what you are doing this afternoon let alone in a couple months.
First off. if a mother wants her son to have an ipad, its her business. She didn't get "bailed out." She was the victim. and for ppl to actually care, and step up and help someone out is great. It doesn't happen enough.
There are too many cold hearted, people out there. Not to mention lazy ass ppl who don't want to work, would rather steal from others to get money.
I am glad your boy will be happy on Easter. Happy endings are always the best stories.
Thank you to the people who cared enough, and could help out and show support!!! :)
Sure, it was sketchy from the beginning. I personally never meet in a parking lot to make a deal from Kijiji, but that's not the point. It's the fact someones trust in another human being was betrayed. You should be able to just look at an ad and trust the person to be honest enough to sell you the product described without any implications. I don't agree with children have expensive electronics, but that's not for you to say. Child obesity is another argument altogether. I mostly replied to this since you decided your opinion was worth typing out and being a heartless human being.
