The Maine Marine Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the drowning of a recreational scuba diver off Monhegan Island on Saturday.
Anna Krowczynska, 61,
Oakley Aviators, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, was diving in 25 feet of water when she failed to surface with the rest of her group,
Oakley Radar Path, said Jeff Nichols, spokesman for the Department of Marine Resources.
Krowczynska was diving off the eastern tip of Monhegan with five other divers from Massachusetts on a guided trip. The group was diving from the Lady Anne,
Oakley Outlet, a charter dive boat operated by Dave Sinclair, owner of Sea Ventures Charters of Wayne, Maine, Nichols said.
When Krowczynska failed to surface around noon, a member of the group found her and brought her to the surface. Members of the party performed CPR and she was brought to Port Clyde, where local emergency workers pronounced her dead.
