Prosecutors said Green embezzled the money while she worked at the Association of American Medical Colleges, which administers the admissions test used by medical schools.
Court documents indicated Green opened bank accounts in names that closely resembled legitimate vendors. One of the names she used, for example, was Brookings Institute - similar to the D.C. think-tank named The Brookings Institution.
Green cried as she apologized in court, saying she had heartbreak every day over the theft. But she later hid her face under a straw hat as she ran from the courthouse to a waiting car.
Attorneys for AAMC issued a statement following the sentencing that read simply: We are pleased that Ms Green has been held accountable for her crimes,
