Communication hub in Marietta seeks applicants
MARIETTA A state government recruiting team will present a job fair this weekend to fill 60 positions with one of the largest ocean carriers in the world for a new communication hub opening in Marietta.
The Georgia Department of Labor's customized recruiting team is planning a hiring event Sunday afternoon at the Courtyard Marriott on Cumberland Boulevard.
China Shipping Container Line is a state owned Chinese container shipping company under the direct administration of the country's central government with headquarters in Shanghai. It was established in Shanghai in 1997 and now has a fleet composed of 148 vessels traveling to more than 100 countries around the world.
Their new logistics center, which will not require containers to be transported to or from the site, is set to open in late March or early April on Parkway Place, off Franklin Road south of the 120 Loop.

Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said the location in Cobb is a natural fit because the computerized center demands employees with talent in technology, which the residents of north Georgia can supply.
Butler, who served for eight years in the Georgia General Assembly representing Carroll and Haralson counties, became the labor commissioner in January 2011.
A new back to work initiative
The hiring event this weekend is similar to one a recruiting team had in Macon last week that drew more than 1,300 people.
Butler said nearly two years ago the department started a pilot program to work with companies moving to Georgia.
This coordination with private industry is to ensure Georgians are on a steady track toward re employment.

Georgia's unemployment rate stands at 7.4 percent, compared to the national rate of 6.7 percent.
Butler said the state's rate has steadily declined, and although there may be bumps up, he predicts the trend will continue down.

Butler said the GDOL wants to do more than provide benefit checks, but also help catch mistakes made by job seekers, such as missteps in the interview process.
