yup. Steve s right: Korean religion is pretty darned severe. I guess that Korean Christians beat up non-Christians isn t surprising considering Korea learned their christianity from the bourgeois variety popular in the US in the 1950s.
I had a date with a Korean dude in the late 1990s - a man from one of the most privileged families in Korea. Every Korean person I asked knew exactly who he and his family were.
In our first and only conversation on our first and only date, in discussing his religion with me, he lost little time revealing his animus toward Jews. I did a double-take and asked him to repeat, which he did without batting an eyelash.
I replied by asking him if Koreans had become Christians just so they could learn to hate Jews.
Though this person was extremely bright and as well-educated as a wealthy Korean might be expected to be, he was completely blind to the bankruptcy of the world-view his religion had taught him.
As I said, it was our first and only date.
