The Bears will enhance the stadium experience for fans attending home games this season at Soldier Field with the addition of new video boards and an indoor club comparable to an upscale sports bar.
New video boards in each end zone will be 128 feet by 40 feet or 310 percent larger than the current ones and will boast the highest picture quality in the NFL with a 1080P HD resolution.
The Den Presented by Xfinity will be akin to an upscale sports bar on the west side of Soldier Field. LED ribbon panels along the east and west 300-level fascia will be increased to a span of 390 feet and there will be a new 444-foot long ribbon panel on the west 200-level fascia. All the LED ribbon panels will be 16mm resolution.
“The video boards are the engine for the whole game-day experience,” said Chris Hibbs, the Bears’ vice president of sales and marketing. “Everything we do on game day from entertainment to introductions to sponsor activation to stats and replays is driven through the video boards. We’ve done quite a bit of fan surveying and think we’ve built a game-day presentation that speaks to what’s most important to them.
“The fact that they’re significantly larger, and will have the highest picture quality in the NFL, which means more vibrant colors and better clarity at sharp viewing angles, it’s going to make the entire game-day presentation much more dynamic and exciting for our fans.”
The Bears are also adding 10 new cameras, including two wireless cameras that are able to roam throughout the stadium and two 4K cameras mounted to the fascia to shoot down the goal lines.
Also debuting this season will be "The Den Presented by Xfinity," a climate-controlled club that will include a variety of unique seating and gathering opportunities, four full service bars, four food stations, ample dedicated restrooms and an impressive audio visual system.
“If you think about the building, our only indoor hospitality spaces are the United Club and the newly-named PNC Suites,” Hibbs said. “In both cases we’re very lucky to be sold out, so there’s not that indoor hospitality opportunity for our fans that sit in other parts of Soldier Field.”
The Den will feature hand-crafted sandwiches and bar snacks. The culinary selections will be enhanced by four chef-driven stations using fresh seasonal ingredients and locally-sourced menu items including some Chicago classics. The bars will feature a full selection of MillerCoors products, local craft beers, and both innovative and classic signature cocktails.
Located on the west side mezzanine level behind sections 136 and 138, this one-of-a-kind game-day environment will be open before, during and after Bears home games for a limited number of fans. Full season passes will be available exclusively to Bears season-ticket holders for $400 through an annual random-selection process.
“The west side of the building is an area where there is some open space,” Hibbs said. “We felt like there’s something better there for our fans—access to a better food option, a better beverage option and a place to go inside and get warm later in the season. For the fans looking for that experience, The Den by Xfinity is going to be a really attractive space for them.”
The enhanced video boards and The Den are just part of the Bears’ ongoing efforts to improve the game-day experience.
“Our season ticket-holders and game-day attendees are our most important customers,” Hibbs said. “They’re our core fans and everyone that works for the Bears is focused on, ‘How do we make the game-day experience the best NFL viewing experience there is?’ That’s the big-picture thinking that drives everything we do.”
