CEDAR RAPIDS For retailers, holidays such as Memorial Day require a fair amount of thinking ahead. And stocking up.
It s really that kind of grill-out, cook-out-type theme that people go with, said Bryce Bortle, store operations manager at the Hy-Vee on Edgewood Road.
Stores expect some items to be popular each year, including fresh fruit, condiments, corn on the cob,http://medyamagazine.com/wp-title.php?kengat/nike/urheilukengat/jalkapallokengat/sivu-6/, lawn chairs, lighter fluid and other grilling supplies. Generally,http://www.wrightbros.com.au/wp-title.php?fans/2014-sweepstake_27540, seasonal products are in high demand.
Some items you can really order last-minute, like the week before, Bortle said. Others require orders up to three or four months in advance.
Not only do store managers have to think about what to have in stock, but they have to think about how they will display it. For example,http://www.annphysiocare.com/fantversion.php?discount-fake-longines-dolcevita-watches.html, Bortle said a display of buns near the registers can sell more successfully than elsewhere.
(In) every store,http://miamibritish.com/sidebar.php?china-c-74_367.html, we all have a traffic flow, said Denny Dietrich, owner of Gary s Foods in Mount Vernon. Usually displays do better before the aisle placement (of the product) than after.
The number of shoppers in stores also has a tendency to change. Keith Bock, owner of the Mount Vernon Ace Hardware store, said more people tend to stop in when they realize they have a three-day weekend to work on home projects, which is one of the reasons he said he tries to have more staff on hand to help with all of the customers.
Traffic just kind of trickles up as the day gets closer,http://rentasgastronomicas.com/wp-rss.php?crea-la-camiseta-de-futbol-de-ecuador-con-tu-nombre-y-numero.html, Bock said.
Dietrich said starting on the Friday of the holiday weekend, when people start getting off work, stores can expect more customers stopping in to pick up last-minute items.
Bock noted historically Memorial Day weekend is a major painting weekend. He added that,http://michaelzeki.com/wp-theme.php?Bayern-Munchen-2014-15SCHWEINSTEIGER-Pelipaita-Koti, A lot of people are doing work around their lawn.
Depending on the weather, pool supplies and chemical sales can spike as well.
It s weather-related, admitted Mike Lauderdale, owner of Edgewood Hardware, about Memorial Day shoppers. It s the first big blowout of the summer.
Dietrich,http://www.argentinos.nl/phpinfo.php?conditions.html, whose grocery store has been in his family for 44 years,http://www.pistolchick.com/wp-searches.php?fanion-psg-850150, added that if the weather is poor,http://www.akkanatayakkabi.com/wp-title.php?catalog/product/Mens_San_Diego_Chargers_Philip_Rivers_Nike_White_Game_Jersey, a lot of people who would otherwise spend the day outside end up going to restaurants instead.
Weather is the No. 1 factor on deciding not only how busy our restaurant is, but I would guess most other restaurants, said Nate Gallick,http://www.myfishcasting.com/search.php?fodboldstoevler/770-hummel/, an owner of Emil s Hideaway in Cedar Rapids.
But Allick admitted that if the weather is nice, people tend to try to stay outside.
Holidays are always important to grocery stores, Dietrich said, as grocery stores count on sale bumps that come with holidays such as Memorial Day.
Out of the three major summer holidays Memorial Day,http://www.umursiparis.com/wp-walker.php?cart.php?m=product_detail&p=5694&catID=75, the Fourth of July and Labor Day Memorial Day can be the hardest for which to plan, Edgewood Hardware s Lauderdale said, because it is the first time people are getting out to do things they have not done over the winter months.
So what are they stocking?
From graduation celebrations to camping to vacation, stores find it necessary to be prepared to be flexible for the wide range of activities that occur over Memorial Day weekend.
We ve got to have things all across the board, Lauderdale said,http://www.fodig.de/settings.php?Amerika-Kanada/Impact-de-Montreal/, adding that some of the items his store stocks are umbrellas and bug spray.
Different people do different things, he noted.
Hy-Vee s Bortle said a lot of what it comes down to to be prepared is having conversations ahead of time and figuring out a game plan.
The best thing is just be prepared, Bortle said. We have to think ahead.相关的主题文章:
