SOLON Members of the community got a chance Thursday night to hear from finalists for the Solon School Superintendent position. One of these candidates may be selected for the position by the end of the week,http://www.fabat.no/torget.asp?zlatan-topper-norden-liste/3422775034.html.
The two finalists, Anthony Voss, the superintendent of the Hudson Community School District near Waterloo, and Davis Eidahl, the superintendent of the Ottumwa Community School District, told the crowd in attendance that Solon schools have outstanding staff and ample opportunities for administrators to interact with students.
The district is searching for a replacement for Sam Miller, who said last month he is leaving to head Area Education Agency 167 in Cedar Falls. Miller has led the approximately 1,300-student Solon Community School District since 2010.
Both candidates interviewed with the Solon school board this week and met with several groups, including teachers and students, in an all-day interview Thursday.
The school board was deliberating in closed session as of 8 p.m. Thursday night. Rick Jedlicka, the board vice president, said this week that an announcement could come at a Friday morning board meeting.
Voss, a former music teacher,http://www.seduberry.com/wp-searches.php?billig-fotballdrakter-stoke-city-drakt-15-16-home-pa-nett.html, has led the approximately 650-student Hudson district since 2010.
Bringing a teacher leadership program to Hudson schools and improving the district s financial picture and facilities are among the highlights of his time there, Voss said. Solon schools will begin a teacher leadership program in which teachers coach their peers on best instructional practices next school year.
The Hudson district was in financial crisis when Voss arrived in 2010, he said. The district had to make tough decisions,http://www.kombatkungfu.it/kf.asp?tag/manchester-city/, Voss added,http://www.aaskov-mini.dk/fantversion.php?rejseguide-stoke-city/, but it also has expanded programs and hired new staff members.
Hudson schools have strict policies on homework completion and bullying, Voss said. Students who don t turn homework in on time are required to stay after school to finish it, he said, and students are expelled after three strikes under the bullying policy.
Those types of behaviors in schools are absolutely toxic,http://www.akkanatayakkabi.com/fantversion.php?Brasil-Fotballdrakter-Barn-2013-hjemme, and I have no room for bullies,http://brandbookcloud.com/cron.php?landshold/ovrige-landsholdstrojer, Voss said.
Eidahl, a former physical education and biology teacher, has led the approximately 4,600-student Ottumwa district since 2011.
Improving graduation rates and implementing programs that allow students to feel they belong at school are among his accomplishments in Ottumwa,http://www.vincinibottier.com/wp-blog.php?style/nfl-womens-kickoff-t-shirt/20714701, Eidahl said.
The Ottumwa district was in the bottom 10 for graduation rates among all Iowa districts when Eidahl took over as superintendent, he said. The district s graduation rates have since improved by about 20 percentage points, he added.
Ottumwa schools also have implemented a Belong campaign to help address bullying and improve students social and emotional health,http://ginasbloomingfantasies.com/wp-blog.php?catalog/product/Mens_Arizona_Cardinals_Carson_Palmer_Nike_Cardinal_Game_Jersey, Eidahl said.
That s an opportunity to get ahead of (bullying) and to get it out of our hallways and classrooms, he said.
About 20 people attended the public forums, which were led by representatives of Ray and Associates,http://klassiksportwagen.de/layout-styles.php?Produkt/Sitzkissen, the firm hired to help the board in the search. Discussion in the forums was based on attendees submitted questions.
Greg Morris, a Solon resident whose children attended Solon schools, said Voss was impressive at the public forum.
I like the fact that he said he wants students to know who he is and what he does,http://neopianroyalty.com/wp-content.php?2%25C3%25A8me-Maillot-Coupe-De-France-2015-joueur, Morris said.
Eidahl comes from a different environment with different ideas, Morris said. But he s very capable,http://www.welshdiving.co.uk/wp-searches.php?contacts, obviously.
Before taking over Hudson schools, Voss worked as the principal at St. Joseph Catholic School in Marion and as dean of students at Beckman High School in Dyersville.
Voss earned a doctorate in education this year from the University of Northern Iowa, according to the Hudson district website.
Before taking over the Ottumwa district, Eidahl was an associate superintendent and principal there, he said. Eidahl said he earned a teaching degree from Coe College.
Eidahl said he knows Miller,http://electricvibesstore.com/wp-rss.php?fr/lists/replica-maillot-de-foot.aspx, the current Solon superintendent, from their time together as principals in the Davis County school district near Ottumwa.
Both candidates said they were at least interested in standards-based grading. Solon schools use that practice in which teachers focus more on how much students have learned and less on traditional letter grades in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Ottumwa schools use standards-based grades, Eidahl said. And the Hudson district has studied Solon s use of the practice as it considers adopting standards-based grades, Voss said.相关的主题文章:
