The Office for National Statistics report comes less than a fortnight after Labour lost heavily in the election while campaigning on the claim that millions cannot afford a decent standard of living,

The ONS figure is lower than the numbers touted by activists and academics,
http://www.bluescamp.no/layout-styles.php?terminliste-serie-a-italia-20142015/. Think-tanks and research groups claim that 14 million people live below the poverty line and if ‘austerity’ policies continue one in four people will be poor by 2020,

In 2013,
http://verdensbedstenogensinde.dk/wp-feed.php?, 7.8 per cent of people in the UK were in persistent income poverty,
http://www.optionbstudio.com/embed.php?fodboldtroejer/449-finland/, equivalent to approximately4.6 million people
Yesterday’s analysis from the ONS said that about half of those counted as below the poverty line – officially around 10 million people – do not in reality stay poor for long.
People are counted as poor if they live on less than 60 per cent of median income – calculated as £264 a week for a childless couple in the financial year 2012/13.
The majority are on low incomes because of personal problems like a marriage or relationship break-up,

But many will quickly get a new job,
http://www.fodig.de/plugins.php?fussballbekleidung/textilien/shorts/masita/, or will find a new partner and leave their poverty-stricken status behind – and leave the benefit dependency that is a guarantee of continued poverty.
Since comparable figures were first made available in 2008,
http://www.ytutanflamenca.com/wp-searches.php?stores/realmadrid/fr/c/mode/femmes, the UK has consistently had a persistent poverty rate lower than the EU average
Persistent poverty is defined as being in poverty in the current year and at least two of the three preceding years
The ONS analysis,
http://lasvegaspizzeria.com/wp-title.php?mundial-italia-c-50_55_21.html, based on a European-wide survey of half a million people,
http://limgclub.com/export.php?lists/futbol-ninos-botas-terrenos-firmes.aspx, found that just 7.8 per cent of Britons were living in persistent poverty – defined as poor this year and in at least two out of the three previous years.
The figure is less than half the 15.9 per cent official British poverty rate in 2013.
The report said: ‘Experiencing poverty over a number of years is more detrimental for the individual than a brief period in poverty.’
The Department for Work and Pensions welcomed the findings as an endorsement of the Government’s efforts since 2010 to reform the benefit system and make work pay.
Tory MP Philip Davies said: ‘Under Labour governments it was all about trapping people in poverty. Now the reforms are helping trapped people out of poverty and helping them prosper.’相关的主题文章:
