WHL awardsSpokane’s Kailer Yamamoto (Mead High) was runner-up for WHL rookie of the year during the league’s award ceremonies Wednesday at Calgary, Alberta. Brandon’s Nolan Patrick won the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy for top rookie after finishing with 30 goals and 26 assists in 55 games. Yamamoto had 23 goals and 34 assists in 68 games.
Other winners included:
Oliver Bjorkstrand, Portland, player of the year;

Taran Kozun, Seattle, goaltender of the year;

Shea Theodore, Seattle,http://www.producteursdemaregion.com/producteur.php?world-cup-2014-argentine-pelipaita-c-8_23.html, defenseman of the year;

John Paddock,http://teslaglobaltechnology.com/wp-diff.php?futbol-club-espanyol-c-419_757.html, Regina, coach of the year.

The Spokane Chiefs received a big boost by landing the No. 1 pick for today’s Western Hockey League bantam draft.
But the good news only got better for the Chiefs. Spokane also owns the No. 9 selection and four picks in the top 37.
Put another way: The Chiefs will make two high-end selections this morning before 15 of the WHL’s 22 teams start drafting.
“I’m trying to think of a first overall pick who hasn’t worked out and I’d have to go back several years,http://verdensbedstenogensinde.dk/wp-plugins.php?VM-2014-france-blaise-matuidi-14-Hjem-tr%25C3%25B8je,” Chiefs general manager Tim Speltz said Tuesday, on his way to the draft in Calgary,http://www.fodig.de/plugins.php?teamsport/nike-precision-iii-trikot-kurzarm-rot-f657.html, Alberta. “The odds are very good that (the No. 1) turned out to be an impact player.”
That was certainly the case the other time Spokane selected first, in 2006. The Chiefs took defenseman Jared Cowen,http://www.sjtotal.dk/settings.php?nyheder/675-al-thani-svigter-malaga, a key component in their run to the 2008 Memorial Cup championship.
The Portland Winterhawks are a prime example of what the draft can mean. A last-place team for three consecutive seasons until 2008-09,http://www.door6.co.uk/wp-rss.php?watches/bvlgari.php, Portland used its high draft picks to become a league power the last five seasons.
Spokane’s good fortune came at the expense of the struggling Saskatoon Blades, who finished the 2014-15 season with the fewest points in the WHL. The Blades traded their 2015 first-round pick – which turned out to be the No. 1 overall selection – to Spokane in January 2013 for Collin Valcourt, who finished with 56 points in two seasons with Saskatoon.
Speltz and Chris Moulton, the Chiefs’ director of scouting/player personnel,http://www.brentwoodbrewing.co.uk/wp-plugins.php?japanese-replicas/chopard.html, scoured the Canadian provinces searching for their top candidates.
“I think everybody sees the same tournaments,http://www.handelcon.com/wp-xml.php?DeAndre_Hopkins_Jersey, so you look to see who has elevated their game,” said Speltz, who said the Chiefs used as many resources as they had available.
Speltz said the Chiefs looked for the best player available rather than someone to fill a specific need. Many of the drafted players won’t begin to prosper until they’re 17 or 18 years old,http://www.jocko.dk/pirjo.php?napoli-fodboldtroejer/, two or three years down the road.
“I think if it was a science, there would be no mistakes,” Speltz said. “If you look at any draft in any sport, you have to project … and you can’t project sometimes how big players are going to be. And there are some life challenges that you don’t know about – commitment, dedication,http://www.producteursdemaregion.com/single.php?jalkapallokengat/1608-mizuno/, a lot of things come into their lives …”
Speltz wouldn’t reveal Spokane’s preference for the No. 1 pick, but he acknowledged as a good starting point a list of defenseman Ty Smith of Lloydminster, Alberta; Luka Burzan and Jackson Leppard, both of the Vancouver, British Columbia, area; and Manitobans Calen Addison and Jett Woo.
“Smith is easily the consensus No. 1 pick for this year’s draft,” Tyler Neisz, head scout and owner of Western Elite Hockey Prospects, told Kelly Friesen in Yahoo! Sports’ Buzzing The Net. “He played this past season for Delta Hockey Academy in the CSSHL (Canadian Sport School Hockey League) and dominated each tournament he played in and also in league play.”
“(Smith) is just a complete, overall very good hockey player,http://www.hemsedalturbusser.no/any.asp?Billige-Colombia-Fotballdrakt-Borte-Draktsett-2015-Kortermet.html,” Kelowna Rockets assistant general manager/director of player personnel Lorne Frey told HockeyNow. “He does everything well. He looks guys off, skates exceptionally well, plays hard, smart,http://lasvegaspizzeria.com/wp-config-sandbox.php?futbol-nacional-camisetas-ucrania-c-420_538.html, very intelligent and consistent.”
The other team that figures to improve dramatically in the draft is Moose Jaw, which owns the fourth and sixth overall selections.相关的主题文章:
