Over the years as we ve talked with teachers we ve heard time and again that their students don t get enough time with clay, Jensen says. Schools can find it difficult to have clay programs because it can be expensive, and you need specialized equipment.
The center has served about 1,500 students this year, and Jensen hopes the new program will do so well that the center will need to add a mobile clay lab coordinator to its staff.

The mobile clay lab fills a void in some school art programs; for others, it complements existing curricula.
Angie White, an art teacher at Linn-Mar High School, has worked with the Ceramics Center s mobile clay lab for her students in ninth to 12th grade.
