The money was raised during the university’s Soar High and Run 5k sponsored by the Kinesiology, Exercise and Physical Education Club. The race was March 28 in Bethany and had about 80 participants and 35 volunteers.
Members of the SCU Education Department, including professors Melissa Cox, Kristen Gregory and Dana Owens-DeLong, joined with KEPE Club members Jacobin Ainatsiferana and Alli Williams to present the check.
Overholser Elementary is part of the Putnam City School District and is located in Bethany.
Habitat sets home dedication
Cleveland County Habitat for Humanity will dedicate the third of 10 homes it is building to help rebuild Moore after the 2013 tornado.
The public is invited to the dedication of the Taylor family home at 2 p.m. Sunday at 1517 SE 6 in Moore.
St. Gregory’s celebrates graduation
SHAWNEE — St. Gregory’s University celebrated the graduation of the class of 2015 on Saturday at the W.P. Wood Fieldhouse in Shawnee, conferring 168 associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees to students from the Shawnee and Tulsa campuses.
About 58 percent of the graduates were students from the College of Continuing Studies adult degree programs, according to a news release.
Commencement speaker was the Rev. Larry Snyder, vice president for missions at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota and former president of Catholic Charities USA. Student speaker was Jay Camp, a business major from Tecumseh. Jean Thornbrugh was honored for her years of service with a conferral of professor emeritus.
