It's probably something we spoke about at the start of the year, having more variety that can go through there and getting more numbers to that midfield group. It is so important to have a really strong engine room and not rely on two or three individuals. To have strength and weight of numbers through there, it's pleasing to see. I know they'll be itching to get out there on Saturday.
Players will come through and assist, but the foundation is strong. Hannebery is averaging 30 possessions per game so far this season, sixth in the competition. Kennedy averages 29, more than half of which are contested, and eight clearances each game. Luke Parker is coming off an exceptional previous-round effort against Geelong in which he had 31 disposals, 11 marks, five tackles and kicked five goals. Jack has been hitting his straps lately and Tom Mitchell, who broke back into the senior team in round five, has been a powerhouse with a third-ranked 30.3 average touches and six tackles per game.
It makes for a Swans central brigade in about as healthy shape as possible for what could be a telling match.
Jack described the midfield players' form and variety as a strength that we've got . He said he had enjoyed his expanded role or heading into the forward line at times, playing inside or playing on a wing, while Hannebery and Mitchell, too, have pushed down the ground at opportune moments.
It just adds variety, he said. The burnout and physical toll it can take if you're continually playing inside and playing midfield, it can take its toll throughout the year. At times we can play forward … conserve a little bit more energy and hopefully that'll pay dividends.

Hawthorn will welcome back vice-captain Lewis from suspension, though skipper Hodge has another week to go to complete his three-match striking ban. Isaac Smith is likely to return from illness and experienced defender Brian Lake could be named after recuperating from a medial ligament injury. Huge ins and they'll give their team a lot of confidence, Jack said of Lake, Lewis and Smith. [They are] three players we certainly need to be aware of. They're experienced, they're leaders. Big ins for them. Any team without their captain's going to miss him a little bit. But the balance of their team is so strong that they'll be able to cover him.
Individuals may be eyeing atonement but Jack reiterated the side was not interested in history. What happened last year is done and dusted, he said. We've dealt with the hurt and disappointment of that. This is a new year. People talk about grand final replays … the reality is that there are no grand final replays. They won the competition last year, they were too good, and we're firmly focused on this year.
