CONNECT 12 TWEETCOMMENTEMAILMORECONCORD, N.C. – Leavine Family Racing is hosting its inaugural session of CAMP 95, a summer camp program designed to provide high school students with a behind-the-scenes look at different careers in the NASCAR racing industry. The camp will provide students with a chance to explore the many different careers available in racing, from engineering and building racecars to marketing and sponsorship roles.
LFR vice president of marketing and partnerships Jeremy Lange told WCNC that the team has received applications from students all across America, surprising the organization.
"It was a team decision, to think of an idea that we could give back to the community, both in motorsports and in our local community. Our thought was that it would be more locally based with students coming from the Greater Charlotte Area, but it's been exciting to see that we've had students as far north as New Jersey and as far west as New Mexico apply, which totally blew me away. Those are dedicated parents and kids."
The unique camp is open to any high school student or rising ninth grader nationwide. CAMP 95 is designed to help the team foster a valuable connection with the younger generation of race fans and future industry employees.
Lange is quick to point out the purpose of this camp is to make students more aware of careers in the motorsports industry that aren't necessarily shown during a race broadcast.
"It's going to be me more of a symposium of sorts. We're going to have the students in a room and we'll have an introduction where we'll give them an overview of what the day's going to look like. And then they're going to have some of the guys from our race team, including crew chief Wally Rogers meet with them and talk about what it's like to be on a race team. The whole idea of the day is to show that motorsports is more than just drivers and crew chiefs, and that there are more jobs than just what you see on TV. If you walk around this track, you'll see 50 jobs you didn't even know existed, and our goal is to point those out to them."
Students will learn about careers in marketing, public relations, race track operations, as well as engineering and the media.
"We're having someone from Speedway Motorsports come out and speak to the students about working for the track. We will also have an engineer from Roush-Yates speak to the kids about the more technical aspect of NASCAR. We want to broaden the students' view from just seeing racecar drivers and pit crews to seeing engineers, catering, events, engine manufacturers, and the NASCAR media. It's more of a 'Motorsports 101' on what careers there are, how you can get your foot in the door, and where this industry can take you."

The one-day camp will be held Tuesday, June 16, and is tentatively scheduled to take place at Leavine Family Racing's headquarters in Concord, N.C. The busy day will include a shop tour with Wally Rogers, who will explain the team's start in NASCAR and the competition side of racing.
If everything goes as planned, Lange and the entire LFR team hope to turn CAMP 95 into a starting point for high school students interested in motorsports.
"Our goal is to take the success of this year, have it go well, and help this grow into an annual event. We'd love to have this grow into a multiple day camp. We're going to use the feedback from the kids to mold and form this into an even better experience beginning next year."
Students interested in CAMP 95 can find applications at www.lfr95.com/camp95. Applications are due by May 25 and only 30 campers will be selected to participate. These campers will be notified of their acceptance via email by June 1. Any questions applicants may have can be emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots.
