The San Diego are optimistic about signing quarterback to a long-term extension, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. 
Rivers was the subject of trade rumors over this off-season, with former San Diego running back LaDainian Tomlinson that he didn't think Rivers will be the starting quarterback for the Chargers in 2015.
The 33-year-old Rivers is set to become a free agent after next season. He's started every game for San Diego since the beginning of the 2006 season.
Rivers led the NFL with 18 interceptions in 2014 and finished with 31 passing touchdowns and 4,286 passing yards.

San Diego went 9–7 last season, missing the playoffs for the fourth time in five years. The Chargers drafted running back in the first round of this year's draft.
