Representatives from the Abraham Lincoln High School community came to the Denver Public Schools board Thursday night to express their concern over the possibility of a middle school being added to the campus. A teacher, parent and several students complained about a lack of transparency because news of a community meeting about the potential middle school never reached many families. Only 17 people attended the March 25 meeting at the school at 2285 S. Federal Blvd. A notice was sent home with students five days before the meeting, but the letter made no mention of the possible middle school. English teacher Jocelyn Palomino said most of the letters to her class ended up in her recycle bin. "We're not happy about the transparency," she said.Local nonprofit group Padres and Jovenes Unidos, which works with minority communities on issues of education and civil rights, organized the delegation. Parent Lorena Lim n, speaking through an interpreter, wondered why she can get a phone call when her child misses a class but couldn't be notified about the meeting. DPS chief of schools Susana Cordova said it's difficult to balance the amount of information to put into a letter, since it can create a sense of panic.
