Have the Blues really fallen that far – from plucky lower-mid ladder and ordinary to completely hopeless? Well, clearly, yes they have.
So, the question this game posed – again – was whether the bad-news Blues would muster some measure of competition for a mid-table team. And the scores indicate they didn't pass that test,http://www.nativeprince.com/wp-plugins.php?fodboldtrojer-landshold/frankrig, and that the game ended with another Groundhog Friday night. Channel Seven executives can console themselves that there are only a few more Carlton Friday nights left.

The scores aside, the number that was most concerning for Malthouse – and for those on the Carlton board who are pondering how long he remains – was the tackle count: 35 for the game and just 15 to half-time. It is hard to determine whether this lack of tackling bespoke a lack of effort, technique, speed or something else. Certainly,http://klassiksportwagen.de/settings.php??path=contentwrapper&contentid=9&hnav=r, it's arguable that the Blues don't have the pace that allows them to close down space.
There was one period of the match – from late first quarter and a large portion of the second term – when the Blues played with enough cohesion to trouble Geelong. They drew to within 14 points at one stage,http://www.akkanatayakkabi.com/wp-rdf.php?newcastle-united-721200547-45, having conceded the first four goals (4.0 to 0.3 after 12 minutes) and six of the first seven majors in the opening term (an ugly 6.0 to 1.3). Later in that second quarter, as Chris Yarran and Jason Tutt goaled, the scores were a respectable 8.4 to 5.5 and the Blues were showing a pulse.
Alas, these signs of life – led by a courageous Kade Simpson – soon flatlined. The Cats, propelled by their emerging younger brigade,http://uniquecreatures.com.au/wp-diff.php?corum-admiral-cup-legend-mens-watch.html, cantered away,http://www.optionbstudio.com/settings.php?la-galaxy, methodically piercing an undermanned Carlton defence.
The Blues had entered the match without Michael Jamison and Lachie Henderson,http://www.bucapositano.it/css.asp?cagliari-c-57_153.html, which left them bereft at both ends and they were particularly thin for tall defenders. Malthouse had deployed a flanker-sized Simon White on the monstrous Tom Hawkins, while placing his only genuine key defender, Sam Rowe,http://brandbookcloud.com/embed.php?Chelsea-Tr%25C3%25B8je-2014-15, on Mitch Clark. Hawkins duly monstered White one out, but squandered a few chances.
Carlton's woes should not obscure one of the themes of the night, which was that the Geelong effort was carried, not by the old premiership hands, but by younger Cats such as quick and skilful Jordan Murdoch (four goals),http://www.nativeprince.com/wp-rdf.php?fcm-talent-til-sampdoria/, the powerful Josh Caddy (three goals), Mark Blicavs and Cam Guthrie. Murdoch had close to his best game for the club.
Geelong's accuracy was remarkable – the Cats booted 20.3 from set shots, and this made Carlton seem even less competitive than they were.
The Blues had brought Robbie Warnock into the side as a late change for Andrew Carrazzo, and it's fair to say that Warnock doesn't bring much to the table besides some hitouts. It did not help that Levi Casboult, who can take a powerful mark, didn't take many this time. Chris Judd was unusually quiet and did not exert any influence. Marc Murphy was more active but didn't hurt the Cats with his disposals.
Simpson was defiant across half-back and easily the best Blue, while Ed Curnow was persistent in negating Selwood. Dennis Armfield negated Steven Motlop, but added nothing creative or skilful. From a future perspective,http://uniquecreatures.com.au/wp-diff.php?tag-heuer-formula-1-calibre-16-chronograph-mens-watch.html, Troy Menzel's four goals were the sole consolation.
On occasion, the Blues gave effort, but they had none of the elusive commodity – confidence. So they missed tackles and targets and shots,http://www.door6.co.uk/fantversion.php?type/Womens, and let the Cats find space in the corridor and you know the litany.
Gibbs ended the game off the field,http://endobiz.co.uk/wp-content.php?rolex-geneve-cellini-black-leather-strap-white-dial-ladies-watch-islamabad-pakistan.html, having been subbed out with an apparent lower back injury,http://www.pistolchick.com/wp-atom.php?psg, but this did not seem so consequential. The game ended as if it was an NAB game.
Another Carlton Friday night.
