Both performing awards went to local artists who are onstage for the entirety of their shows. David Lee, a longtime local actor and director, won for his no-holds-barred approach to portraying multiple characters in Eric Bogosian's biting Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll. Sarah-Lee Dobbs was honored for bringing multiple acting layers and generating real emotion as an unlucky-in-love woman in the musical Tell Me on a Sunday.
Canadian troupe Viva Dance Company won for Dreamscapes, and fellow Canadians Peter Carlone and Chris Wilson picked up an award for best original script. Their show, Pete 'n' Chris and The Mystery of the Hungry Heart Motel was a riff on buddy movies and slasher films.
This year's Fringe featured more than 110 shows.
