The long term objective is to "Save Thunder Road."
Carowinds announced Saturday that it will shut down the ride after 39 years as part of a renovation plan.
Fans of Thunder Road have until late July 26th to catch a ride, but organizers of the petition hope to change that. The thousands of signatures on this
were posted in less than 48 hours.
They've also started a
hoping to get more attention. The petition organizer tells NBC Charlotte, a meet-up at the iconic ride is scheduled for June 6th, at 2 p.m.
"I wish it would stay," said rider Rick Blue.
Blue was at Carowinds on Memorial Day with his family. He is glad he got a chance to experience the ride with his five-year-old great niece,https://www.gourmaleo.com/wp-atom.php?teamsport/nike-park-iv-sock-fussballstutzen-strumpf-f101.html, Niya.
"She hung in there better than I did,http://maternalsavvy.com/wp-blog.php?," said Blue.
Blue first rode Thunder Road soon after returning from a tour of duty in Vietnam.

"I wanted her to ride it to get the feel of a wooden roller coaster. Carolina Goldrusher still remains the oldest coaster at Carowinds.
Thunder Road,http://teiebat.no/mail.php?Liverpool-Drakt-2013-2014-Hjemme-Borini-Uttak, however, is the only ride with dual parallel tracks that run through North and South Carolina.
From 1995 to 2008, one of the trains faced backwards giving riders a different perspective.
"It's one of the last roller coasters. They are hard to find. I've gone all over the world and on lots of roller coasters. I really enjoyed this one," said Blue.
Carowinds plans to celebrate Thunder Road's history with park surprises and giveaways, leading to the final ride.
Carowinds public relations manager Laresa Thompson says details of the water-park addition will come out in time.

"It's part of 50 million multi-year plan. It's what you see with new front gate, parking spaces, FURY 325 even. Terry Buck of Durham was at the park with his two daughters.
He is sad to see the "classic" ride go, but hopeful of the renovations.
"Maybe they will put another family coaster in that would allow the whole family to ride together," he said.
