TODAY
33rd Mississippi Gulf Coast Memorial Day Blowout: May 23-25, Gulfport Dragway, 17085 Racetrack Road, Gulfport. Not recommended for children. Street racing, bike show, bikini and wet T-shirt contests, camping, flag-raising ceremony, Sunday service, on-site RV camping and more. Cost: $40 per person for weekend; $20 per car, RV, golf cart, trailer and truck for weekend; and $20 on Sunday plus vehicle fee. Proceeds benefit Multiple Sclerosis Society, Boys and Girls Club and more. Details: 392-8281.
Harrison County Gem and Mineral Show: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. May 23 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 24, Coast Coliseum and Convention Center. Cost: $5 and children 10 and younger are free. Gems, minerals, fossils, rocks and jewelry available to purchase. Pearls, opals, Louisiana opal, amethyst, aquamarine, emeralds. To honor of the nation's deceased military veterans, presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2539, along with the City of Gulfport. There will be special recognition for Vietnam War Medal of Honor recipients, Chief Master Sgt. Richard L. Etchberger and Construction Mechanic 3rd Class Marvin G. Shields during the ceremony. Memorial Day service: 9 a.m., Biloxi National Cemetery. Speaker: Capt. Paul Odenthal, commanding officer of Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport. Details: 871-2427.
American Legion Post 139 Memorial Day ceremony: 10 a.m., St. Mary's Cemetery, Bay St. Louis. The event will continue at 10:15 a.m. in front of the club house. Refreshments.
