Word of the couple’s death Wednesday had reached east Petaluma neighbors and Dick Steinhart’s co-workers and friends at Rooster Run Golf Course, where he worked part-time as a course marshal.
“We’re all kind of shocked,” said Rob Watson,http://www.annphysiocare.com/wp-content.php?wall-clocks-replica.htm, PGA pro for Rooster Run and Adobe Creek golf courses. “They were a really nice couple.”
Watson said Richard Steinhart had been an avid golfer for years and was a longtime member of Rooster Run.
An injury in recent years had kept Steinhart from playing, but he still often walked to the course, which wasn’t far from his home, and he worked several shifts a month as course marshal, greeting players and keeping the course moving.
“He was very well liked by staff and a lot of the golfers,” Watson said. “Quite a few people are going to miss him.”
Watson also said the man had been a fisherman and at one time owned a fishing boat.
Neighbor Allan Stern was shocked at the news. He said the couple was known for taking daily walks and stopping along the way for friendly chats.
“They were my next-door neighbors. They were friends of everybody in the neighborhood, well-liked people,” Stern said.
He said they’d been neighbors for about 12 years, but that the Steinharts had lived on his street near Ely Boulevard South for many more years and perhaps were among the first to move into the development. Stern said Richard Steinhart had worked, at least at one time, as a professional fisherman and that the couple had adult children.
The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office released the Steinharts’ names Wednesday afternoon after the couple’s family was notified.
Paulson asked anyone with information about the crash to contact her or Officer Benny Rodriguez at 253-4953.

Fay Steinhart,http://www.granto.no/post.php?694-dame-draktsett-2015-16, 72, died in the collision, and Richard “Dick” Steinhart, 78,http://www.rockpocketgames.com/wp-config-sandbox.php?malaga-cf/la-rosaleda, was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his life-threatening injuries.
The aftermath of the 9 a.m. collision blocked the highway in both directions for four hours while crash investigators gathered evidence and the wreckage was cleared,http://www.bris-skips.com.au/sidebar.php?categories/11_61.html, CHP Officer Anna Paulson said. The crash occurred just west of Napa Road, near the old Stornetta dairy.
CHP officers still are attempting to determine how the crash occurred and are asking witnesses to come forward, Paulson said.
The wreck involved a southbound 2007 Chevrolet Silverado work pickup driven by Christopher Shuman, 27,http://www.qldzoo.com/wp-diff.php?headwear/knit.html, of American Canyon. Headed north was Richard Steinhart, driving a 2010 Ford Fusion, with his wife in the passenger seat.
Paulson said Fay Steinhart was killed in the crash. Richard Steinhart died at Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa.
Officers found the Silverado blocking the northbound lane and the Ford up on a right shoulder embankment. Both vehicles had major front-end damage,http://ginasbloomingfantasies.com/wp-atom.php?lists/alemania-futbol-replica-camisetas-kit.aspx, and firefighters had to cut through the crumpled car to free the couple.
Traffic was diverted at Ramal Road and Napa Road. The pickup driver had minor injuries and declined medical treatment. He remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation, Paulson said. Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected to be a factor in the collision.
Two ambulances responded, as well as Schell-Vista, Sonoma and Carneros firefighters.
