But how the Cats have struck gold.
Blicavs is an emerging star of the competition, whose resilience and will to succeed should serve as an example to any player wanting to make it.
In many ways you could describe him as being Australia's very own Jim Stynes.
Not only is Blicavs (198cm, 98kg) similar in stature to the late Irishman (199cm, 99kg), but he clearly shares the same insatiable appetite to learn and improve.
After playing just four games in the VFL in 2012, Blicavs played 22 AFL games the very next year,http://www.katalogportali.com/tag.php?AC-Milan-Pelipaidat-2014-2015, which included appearances in each of Geelong's three finals.
Last year, he strung together another 23 games,http://www.brassogtreblaas.no/mail.php?under-armour-fotballdrakt-tottenham-hotspur-bortedrakt-2014-2015-v-752.html, which finished with a career-high 20 possessions in the Cats' qualifying final loss to Hawthorn.
In anyone's books, he's now a regular in a team that still considers itself finals-bound. And he's only getting better.
The decision to not play him just in the ruck and away from key positions has been instrumental in his development.
Playing in the ruck today is one of the easiest positions on the ground, considering not too many take marks or get forward and kick goals.
To have an impact in that position you really need to do more than contest ball-ups. You need that profound ability to read the game and take contested marks forward or at that traditional spot,http://www.danalund-drageriet.dk/sidebar.php?fodboldtrojer-aab-c1.php, a kick behind play.
It's why former Eagles ruckman Dean Cox was so good. North's Todd Goldstein is among the best going around right now.
Blicavs' lack of football from a junior level to where he is now is one of the prime reasons he's struggled in that position and in key posts at times.
Forwards need to be able read the play that's coming towards them,http://www.vincinibottier.com/wp-xml.php?camiseta-del-camerun-2015-casa-p-6262.html, and in today's footy backmen have to know the right time to defend and then counter-attack.
Blicavs isn't there, yet.
He is, however,http://www.bluescamp.no/mail.php?Colombia-Borte-Drakt-VM-2014-R%25C3%25B8d-Kj%25C3%25B8pe-Online, improving at a rapid rate by now playing on the opposition's very best midfielders.
And what a handful he is becoming for rival teams. Not only he is successfully smothering key personnel,http://www.saspilot.no/css.php?tag/senderettigheter/, but he is making his opponents work overtime in defence.
Those same athletic abilities that very nearly saw him competing at the London Olympics are now stretching rival onballers. Sure,http://www.gronbeck-hardkrom.no/SIMPLE.asp?om-oss/, he may not yet have the absolute confidence of the game's natural and gun footballers, but give him a little bit more time and then,http://teslaglobaltechnology.com/wp-feed.php?Naiset-Jalkapallo-Pelipaidat, look out!
His numbers speak for themselves. He is now averaging 19 disposals per game and actually racked-up 27 touches while playing on Collingwood skipper Scott Pendlebury a fortnight ago.
For the record,http://hellenicstudiescsus.com/wp-searches.php?teams/j/juventus/old-juventus-football-shirt-s17658.html, Stynes averaged 25.6 disposals (8.9 marks, 15.9 kicks and 9.7 handballs) when he won his Brownlow in 1991.
Blicavs is clearly a long way from that standard,http://hellenicstudiescsus.com/fantversion.php?3%25C3%25A8me-Maillot-de-foot-de-Manchester-City-2014-2015, but for a guy who's almost two metres tall and can run like the wind,http://www.rockpocketgames.com/wp-theme.php?univers/football-americain---nfl.html, he's heading in the right direction.
But to suggest for a minute that Blicavs represents the way of the future,http://www.bluescamp.no/mail.php?Spania-Borte-Drakt-VM-2014-Isco-Svart-Nettbutikk, is wrong. He remains a work in progress and may be the exception to the rule.
Surely the experimentation that the league has seen with recruits – particularly over the past decade – is close to reaching its use-by date?
Karmichael Hunt and Israel Folau served a purpose in helping to promote our game in new territories, but they proved just how difficult it is to adapt to football if you're not born into it.
And how long can clubs really afford to gamble on potential footballers? The average career lasts about four years. Investing time and energy into gun athletes may yield the odd star, but I'm sure most fans would rather see their clubs punting on born footballers at better odds.相关的主题文章:
