A gas meter outside the home was struck, and firefighters had to shut the gas off. There was no explosion.
Neighbor Bill Davenport says it was the second time the home was hit. The first time, he said, the residence was just side-swiped. This time, though, was much more serious.
“Lucky they weren t home,” Davenport said. “Last time it happened, he said he didn t want to ever do that again. He put up all kinds of caution stuff, cause he didn t want to go through that again.”
The female driver of the pickup was trapped inside the cab until firefighters were able to shore up the home and then extract her.
Fire Chief Peter Hough Jr., of the Elizabeth Township Fire Department, said, “The toughest part was securing the structure around the vehicle.”
Hough said with the building unstable, it was a safety threat for his men.
“That was the hard part,” Hough said. “Getting the driver out was relatively easy.”
She received only minor injuries in the wreck, and a blood alcohol test was administered.
Sources say she is likely to face DUI charges because of the accident.
