Sunday on News 8 at 10, we shared with you a special request from a Caddo Mills family. Shanna Martin and her husband need to replace their aging SUV, which they rely on to transport their two adopted children who have special needs.
News 8 viewers came through for the Martins in a really big way.
The Martins adopted Dylan and Nick. Both require special care; Nick is in a wheelchair.
Friends of the family started an online to raise money for a new wheelchair-accessible van. Before our story aired last night, the fund had raised about $3,000.
Less than 24 hours later, nearly $27,000 had been pledged.
Shanna Martin has a special message for those who donated. Thank you from the bottom of our heart. We're amazed at your kindness and generosity, she said. It touched my heart, especially when I read the comment that an 11-year-old boy even donated. So that was just amazing that children are even ... making an impact.
Donors asked the family to raise the goal from the original $20,000 to $50,000 so that more of the family's expenses can be taken care of.
