Qumar Zamen, whose hardware shop is opposite their practice, said the men were popular in the area.

A spokesperson for the Armed Forces of Malta said: 'We are very sad about this tragedy, we tried our best to help.
'It was windy and it's believed the men were caught in currents.'
Maltese police have informed a local magistrate about the accident and an inquiry has been opened.
