LUDLOW The girls soccer B team relied on two varsity players to provide their offense Saturday in the Pioneer Valley Summer Soccer League girls Division B final at Lusitano Stadium. Sophomore forwards and each scored two goals and an assist as Ludlow topped 4-0 en route to its second straight championship. They responded all season in prep for their high school season, Ludlow coach Jeff Coelho said. They really played well, they played as a team and obviously executed on some great goals today. We are really proud. The Ludlow B team consists of rising freshmen and sophomores from the area and won the PVSSL Division B championship last season. Pereira, who took the MVP honors after her performance Saturday, earned the MVP honors in last year s championship game as well.Iwasinski had the same number of goals and assists as Pereira and an argument could have been made that she deserved the MVP award. In the end, however, there was only one award to give and the league organizers decided on Pereira as the recipient. If we had two (awards), they would have definitely walked away with both, Coelho said.Pereira got things started in the 21st minute when she delivered on a free kick from around five yards outside the box. Iwasinski took the ball up the right side and cut in to deliver a shot, which was stopped by goalkeeper . However, the rebound bounced back out to Pereira above the box, who delivered the ball into the open net.Less than a minute later, Pereira returned the favor to Iwasinski, as she sent her in alone on goal. Iwasinski had plenty of time to set herself for the shot and fire it over the goalkeeper for her first goal of the game. We know what we are going to do, we know each other s moves, Iwasinski said of playing with Pereira. I have been playing with her since I was a little girl. From there the game was out of reach, with Iwasinski extending the lead to four in the 50th minute with another nice shot from the right side. Hannah Maynard, Ludlow's third forward, had the best chance from a player not named Iwasinski or Pereira when she ripped a hard shot off the crossbar.It was a strong defensive effort combined with offensive dominance that won the game for Ludlow, which has a lot to look forward to as this team grows into upperclassmen. Ludlow only lost one game in the PVSSL this season the first one of the year and enjoyed the opportunity to defend its title on Saturday.
