DEWITT Area voters will go to the polls this Tuesday to decide some ballot proposals and begin the process of selecting representatives at the state and national level.Among the ballot proposals is the statewide Proposal 1, which would reduce the state use tax and replace it with a local community stabilization share of the tax. It would also require a local community stabilization authority to provide revenue to local governments to be used for local purposes,Ray Ban Rb3413, and it would also increase the portion of the state use tax that is dedicated for aid to local school districts.Voters in Bath Township and DeWitt Township will also vote on proposals seeking a renewal of a millage that funds township police and fire service. The Bath Township proposal is seeking 3 mills for 2014 and 2015. The DeWitt Township proposal is seeking a total of 2 mills, one for the police department and one for the fire department, for four years beginning in 2014.The DeWitt District Library has also placed a millage request on the primary ballot. The request is seeking 0.9998 mills for a 15-year period for the purpose of funding the library. 0.4998 mills is a renewal of a previous millage with 0.5 mills in additional funding.Area voters residing within the City of Lansing and City of East Lansing may also vote on a millage request from the Capital Area Transportation Authority. The request is for 3.007 mills for five years beginning in 2016. The funds raised would be used for CATA operations.Contested racesVoters in Clinton County will also select the Republican candidate to advance to the November general election in the race of the U.S. House of Representatives.Three candidates are seeking the Republican nomination in the bid to replace Republican Dave Camp, who is not seeking re-election. Those candidates are Peter Konetchy, Paul Mitchell and John Moolenaar. Jeff Holmes is the only Democratic Party candidate on the ballot. At the county level, voters in Clinton County Commissioner District 4 will select a Republican candidate to advance to the November general election. Republicans Kenneth Mitchell, Patricia Relyea, and Brian Wethy are contending for the nomination. The lone Democratic Party candidate is Richard W. Hawkins.
