Cardinals sign veteran free
(KTVI)- The St. Louis Cardinals have signed veteran free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski. He is expected to be with the team for Saturday afternoon’s game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
The Cardinals have designated catcher George Kottaras for assignment, making room for Pierzynski on the active roster.
Pierzynski, 37, is a 17 season veteran in the majors, ranking 1st among active catchers with 1,742 games behind the plate. Second on that list, Cardinals All-Star Yadier Molina with 1,276 games.
Pierzynski batted .254 with 4 HR’s and 31 RBI in 72 games for the Red Sox this season before being released on July 16,
