Liz Kendall denied she had thrown a mobile phone at one of her staff
The Labour leadership race was last night plunged into a ‘dirty tricks’ row amid claims that candidate Liz Kendall had thrown a mobile phone at one of her staff.
Ms Kendall’s campaign angrily described the claims as ‘a total lie’ and accused critics of resorting to old-style Labour skulduggery.
They also rejected suggestions from some party sources that Ms Kendall,

A friend said: ‘These false smears are reminiscent of tactics that Labour has rightly left behind. Nothing will distract Liz from setting out to party members and supporters the change that Labour needs to win in 2020.’
Shadow health secretary Liz Kendall was first out of the blocks in the leadership race - announcing her bid with a heavily-Blairite pitch to appeal to middle class voters.
The Leicester West MP has impressed since being elected to Parliament in 2010 - doubling her majority last week despite the party's disastrous performance across the country.
Since entering the Commons five years ago, Ms Kendall has become a member of the so-called 'breakfast club' quartet of Labour frontbenchers along with Chuka Umunna,

Ms Kendall, along with Blairite front-benchers Tristram Hunt and Mr Umunna had been quick to criticise Labour's disastrous campaign after the party suffered its worst election defeat in almost 30 years.
She said: 'I think we didn't get people's trust on the economy... we didn't set out a positive enough alternative for the future.'
But within weeks,

Mr Hunt admitted he had been unable to win over the 35 MPs he needs to get his name on the ballot paper and backed Blairite contender Liz Kendall.
His decision leaves the race to succeed Ed Miliband with just four contenders – Ms Kendall,

Who are the other Labour leadership frontrunners?

In an online chat with Mumsnet he was asked the secret his 'sexy eyes' – and was even forced to fend off accusations that he used mascara after one appearance on Question Time.
Away from the focus on Mr Burnham's pretty boy looks,

Mr Burnham, 45,

After attending state school, Mr Burnham – die-hard Everton fan, who still goes to home games with his father – studied English at Cambridge before moving to London to work in Labour politics.
It was at Cambridge that he met his Dutch wife Marie-France van Heel,

After university he joined Tessa Jowell's team in Parliament before becoming a special adviser to Chris Smith at the Department of Culture, Media Sport.
He finally returned to the north west in 2001 becoming the MP for Leigh.
Despite being an Oxbridge-educated former special advisor – like fellow leadership contenders Yvette Cooper,

In the 2010 leadership battle he ran as the only northern candidate. He said his rivals would not do anything to change the 'top-down,

However,
