Thomas Davis tackles NASCAR at Charlotte Motor Speedway
Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis entered the world of NASCAR with some hot laps at the Charlotte Motor Speedway with Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

Chris Clark, WCNC 8:54 a.m. EDT May 20, 2015CONNECTCOMMENTEMAILMORECONCORD, N.C. -- If the saying holds true about opposites, then it was only a matter of time before Panthers sideline-to-sideline linebacker Thomas Davis found himself behind the wheel of a ride in the start/finish line world of NASCAR.
"It's definitely been a dream come true. You know, you sit around and you think about doing stuff like this, but when you actually get to experience it, it's amazing."
This afternoon, Davis turned laps at Charlotte Motor Speedway getting certified to drive the pace car for the Coke 600.
"I have a much better appreciation after going around the laps that we were able to go around and to think about 600? Wow," said Davis.
A big named student like Davis need an equally impressive mentor. And the only name big enough was Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
"I ran that thing as hard as it would go and he wasn't impressed. I was watching him over there, he was filming the whole thing with his phone like he was riding down the interstate," Earnhardt, Jr. told NBC Charlotte.
Quick on the uptake with a playbook, Thomas had a small issue when it came to the banking.
"I only got to about 110 [mph] and you know, the curves kind of made me a little nervous. I cannot imagine being in one of these cars for four hours. To think about how much heat actually comes off the engine, especially on a hot day, I can't see how no one passes out."
