The lingering political and social crises in Ekiti State brings to mind the peace and tranquility enjoyed in the immediate past, writes Ojo M. Maduekwe

Ekiti State during the four years administration of former governor Kayode Fayemi, although witnessed several developmental projects unlike in past administrations, also had its downsides, albeit in the twilight of his administration. Some killings were alleged to have been politically motivated during Fayemi s tenure.

Notwithstanding the violence witnessed under Fayemi, several political analysts and writers agreed that his administration contributed the highest in developing the state between the three governors that have ruled the state since 1999.

Ekiti, from the days of old has always been prone to violence. According to Femi Falana in a May 21, 2015 letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, Oni s administration also witnessed violence.

Falana listed some of the politically motivated killings thus: When Chief Segun Oni was the governor (2007-2010),http://maternalsavvy.com/wp-title.php?sekalaiset-tarvikkeet/, Ekiti State recorded several cases of kidnapping and politically motivated killings. At the height of the breakdown of law and order in the state, a first class monarch, the Attah of Aiyede, Oba Adeleye Orisagbemi, and the acting provost, College of Education, Ikere Ekiti,http://cabincrewcertificate.co.uk/wp-rdf.php?swiss-breitling-replicas/8.html, Dr Gabriel Olowoyo,http://www.bris-skips.com.au/fantversion.php?specials.html, were kidnapped and killed in an auto-crash as the abductors tried to escape with them on January 30, 2010.

Mr. Falana in writing to the IGP in his May 21 letter had started by narrating how during the first tenure of Governor Fayose, between 2003 and 2006, there were politically motivated killings in Ekiti State. In several reports compiled by the Police and the State Security Service the killings were traced to a killer squad funded by the Ekiti State government.

According to Falana, Owing to pressure from some concerned citizens,http://www.headstartfs.com.au/controls.php?rolex-milgauss-pro-hunter-dlc.html, the murder suspects and their sponsor, Mr. Ayo Fayose,http://www.djjenjones.com/wp-title.php?frankrike-jalkapallo-paidat-lapset-20152016-vuodenaika-p-2163.html, were charged to court. Apart from Captain Dayo Okondo and his orderly who were convicted for the reckless killing of two students of the College of Education, Ikere Ekiti, the other suspects were left off the hook as their cases were compromised by the State Ministry of Justice.

But something instructive that he wrote was that even though during the Fayemi administration between 2010 and 2014,http://tsoegaard.dk/wp-content.php?boern/adidas/sko/fodboldstoevler/predator, Ekiti state also witnessed politically motivated killings, But to the credit of the police the suspects were arrested and promptly charged to court. One of the suspects is Chief Jide Awe, the Ekiti State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress.

This according to Falana remained the difference between the Fayemi administration and that of Governors Fayose and Oni. Recently Ekiti state has been embroiled in series of kidnappings, daylight armed robbery, arson and general breakdown of law and order.
In the atmosphere of impunity which obtains in Ekiti State, armed thugs have been operating with the connivance of the state government. The Police and the State Security Service have been officially restrained from arresting the criminal elements. In the circumstance,http://9thstreetclinics.com/wp-searches.php?nike-jalkapallokengat-c-4-p-8.html, they have unleashed mindless violence on innocent people. The criminal gang has since been joined by kidnap suspects, who escaped from the Lokoja Prison.

Since winning the governorship election in June 21, Ekiti has not known peace. Falana noted this when he wrote that, the wave of kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes have reached an alarming proportion in Ekiti State. Only recently did the security agencies in the state release 11 kidnap victims,http://www.tilmanngrawe.com/wp-rdf.php?robben-%25E2%2580%258B%25E2%2580%258Bholland-t2014-ii-p-3537.html, who were abducted in a spate of three weeks.

THISDAY had reported that The victims, including a professor at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, and Femi Omisore were freed by combined forces of the Police and local vigilant group at Esure Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State.
Following the breakdown of law and order, three past governors of the state,http://www.jurtech.dk/Software.php?fodtoj/predator%3Fsize_adidas_footwear_youth%3D32, Fayemi, Oni and Niyi Adebayo, raised the alarm over the security situation in the state, accusing Fayose in a joint press release made public on Fayemi s official website, that Fayose was supporting violence in the state.

While Fayose s first and second tenure have been riddled with politically motivated violence,http://miamibritish.com/sidebar.php?inter-c-1_29.html, and in his second coming, with no end to the violence that currently plagues the state, the administration of Fayemi was adjudged very peaceful and recorded more developments than the governors that have ruled the state since its creation on October 1,http://medyamagazine.com/fantversion.php?Nike-Gato-II-IC, 1996.

Certainly, history has many reasons to smile at Fayemi than it would Fayose as the latter has shown to be incurably cantankerous with attitudinal exertions for crisis. Perhaps, if the result of his election truly reflected the wishes of the people,http://teslaglobaltechnology.com/wp-rdf.php?opinion/, it is the belief of many that the Ekiti people deserve what they get in return for their ingratitude.相关的主题文章:
