At the Junior League of Cedar Rapids Fostering Strength event in April,http://catamarcainfo.com/wp-diff.php?futbol/AK2491/real-a-jsy-wc, Junior League President Molly Baynes gave public testimony of her experience as a foster care mom. She related the challenges and joys of being a foster parent and stressed the need for the community to help guide and support children as they turn 18 and leave the foster care system. Molly s speech was inspiring, motivating and timely.
May is National Foster Care Awareness month and during this month,http://movilshopcr.com/wp-diff.php?Nike-Tiempo-Legacy-IC, and throughout the year, Iowa KidsNet (IKN) hopes more people answer the call to become foster parents. IKN is a statewide collaboration of six agencies and in coordination with the Department of Human Services. Four Oaks is the lead agency along with partners that include Children s Square,http://www.beder-traedrejeri.dk/settings.php?fodboldtrojer/qpr-trojer-2014-15/, Council Bluffs; Family Resources, Davenport; Lutheran Services in Iowa,http://www.nativeprince.com/wp-title.php?nike-magista-obra-fg-jalkapallokengat-kulta, Des Moines; Quakerdale, Waterloo; and Youth and Shelter Services,http://9thstreetclinics.com/wp-xml.php?jalkapallo/jalkapallokengat/adidas-adizero-f50-fg-jr_-futiskengat-p-8690.html, Ames. IKN works to recruit,http://www.danalund-drageriet.dk/vendanafor.php?messi-fodbold, train, license and support Iowa s foster and adoptive families and to match children by careful consideration of their immediate and long-term needs.
Being a foster family may be one of the toughest jobs in the world, but it s also an incredibly rewarding way to make a difference in a child s life. All children need love and care. They need to know they have a future and hope. Foster parents are there to ensure children stay safe from harm and neglect.
Foster care is a temporary placement,http://medyamagazine.com/wp-feed.php?france-c-597_600.html, which means stability for each foster child is very important. Foster parents need patience, learn acceptance, understand trauma and ask for support when it s needed. They also need to be persistent. Persistence means not giving up on a child, realizing the small incremental changes, celebrating those changes and accepting the child for who they are. IKN is deeply committed to find and support stable foster care placements for children, even under urgent circumstances when the challenges of time and distance do not favor stability.
Some foster children don t have an option to return home,http://medyamagazine.com/wp-pass.php?rolex-day-date-ii-ss-blue-wave.html, and need another permanent family. Sometimes foster parents choose to adopt such children. One successful adoption was a 17-year-old foster teen who desperately wanted a permanent home. His foster family realized he needed support for the big moments in his life; selecting a college,http://www.danalund-drageriet.dk/vendanafor.php?fodtoj/mercurial/mercurial-victory-sg-stovler-ronaldo, celebrating holidays, and sharing celebratory news about his career.
Foster parents are urgently needed to make sure every child and teen in our community has a safe, nurturing place to call home. IKN thanks the Cedar Rapids Gazette and Erin Jordan for sharing information about foster care that will help more people consider becoming foster or adoptive parents.
