Washington state's first dinosaur fossil has been discovered by paleontologists working in part of the San Juan Islands,http://www.gronbeck-hardkrom.no/loader.asp?macron-lazio-60.
According to the Burke Museum, the fossil, measuring 16.7 inches long and 8.7 inches wide, is a partial left femur of a theropod dinosaur — the group that includes Velociraptor, Tyrannosaurus rex and modern birds.
Because it's not a complete fossil, researchers aren't able to positively identify the species. Scientists compared the piece to other fossils in the museum and calculated the compete femur would be about 3 feet long — smaller than T-rex.
