auPrince, May 21 (EFE). Former Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe has officially declared his candidacy for the presidential elections on Oct. 25.
Lamothe submitted his papers to the electoral council an hour before the deadline for submissions expired on Wednesday.
On Dec. 14 last year, in the midst of a major political crisis, Lamothe resigned as prime minister on the recommendation of a presidential commission that suggested his removal would help overcome tensions gripping the country at that time.
A former chief of the national police, Mario Andressol, and Maryse Narcisse of the Familia Lavalas Party, are also standing in a field of more than 55 presidential candidates.
Haiti will hold legislative elections on Aug. 9 and presidential elections Oct. 25.
If no clear winner emerges in the October poll, a second round is scheduled for Dec. 27.相关的主题文章:
