Evie suffered 13 broken ribs and three skull fractures after being injured in five separate incidents before her death in February 2013.

Unprecedented move: Mr Justice Peter Jackson's decision will be welcomed by critics who have accused the family courts of excessive secrecy
Mr Thomas stood trial at Liverpool Crown Court last year but was acquitted of five charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
However, Mr Justice Jackson came to a different conclusion after a family court hearing held at the High Court in London in 2013 to decide which parent should have custody of Evie’s sister.
He described Mr Thomas as a ‘determined liar’ and said he was satisfied that Evie’s mother, Hayley Fisher, 26, had no idea what he was doing to their daughter.
The judge concluded: ‘I find that sole responsibility for Evie’s injuries rests with the father and that the mother is entitled to be exonerated.’
Juries in criminal trials have to be sure that a defendant is guilty before convicting them.
By contrast, civil court judges make their findings ‘on the balance of probabilities’, meaning a lower standard of proof is required.
Mr Justice Jackson’s family court judgment could not be published until after the criminal case had finished.
Mr Thomas tried to stop his name being published in the ruling, arguing that ‘identification of the perpetrators of a crime is the purpose of the criminal court, not the family court’.
But the judge rejected his plea for secrecy, noting that Miss Fisher felt strongly that an ‘accurate report of what happened to Evie’ should be made public.

Tragedy: Evie suffered 13 broken ribs and three skull fractures after being injured in five separate incidents before her death in February 2013.

Tattoos: Mr Thomas has permanent tributes to his daughter on his body but the judge in the custody case says that he was responsible for hurting her despite a jury clearing him

Damning: The judge said Mr Thomas, right outside court,  was a ‘determined liar’ and said he was satisfied that Evie’s mother, Hayley Fisher, 26, left, had no idea what he was doing to their daughter.
There is a balance to be struck between protecting details of lives and there has to be a good reason in the public interest to publish those details Susan Jacklin QC, chairwoman of the Family Law Bar AssociationSusan Jacklin QC, chairwoman of the Family Law Bar Association, told : ‘There is a balance to be struck between protecting details of lives and there has to be a good reason in the public interest to publish those details.
‘Mr Justice Peter Jackson has sought to strike the balance in the right way and identified the good reason why the confidentiality of this man should not be protected.’
She added: ‘He has said you cannot use the privacy of the family court to distort what you have presented out there in a public context.
'The jury did not say that he did not do it — they said: “We are not satisfied he did it on the burden of the proof”.’相关的主题文章:
