The city of Vilnius in on Thursday for the dedication of a monument to, Alexey Bogaevsky of the Russian fan website told Beatles Examiner. He said the project was dedicated Mindaugo 27 (Mindaugo gatvė 27) and said it took two years to complete. Gleb Divov - used by permission.
“Monument Lennon is based on the famous photograph by Robert Whitaker, where Lennon was captured without glasses and keeps an eye on the flower,” Bogaevsky said. “A monument should symbolize what Lennon did in the -- the Revolution.” He said the event was attended by many local officials, including the mayor of the city and Great Britain's Ambassador to Lithuania David Hunt. He said the monument to Lennon will become one of the city's tourist attractions.
Near the location of the opening ceremony is an art gallery which is featuring an exhibition of Beatles photos, including the Whitaker photo on which the monument is based. A hotel, which opened nearby, also has a special room dedicated to Lennon.
