'And pregnancy and motherhood are life-changing events resulting in marked alterations in the psychology and physiology of a woman.
'Our results argue that these factors should be taken into account when treating brain disorders in women.'
The researchers believe their study also reals why hormone replacement therapy - prescribed to some post-menopausal women - displays variable degrees of effectiveness.
The study focused on how the hormones oestradiol and oestrone affected the neuroplasticity.
This is how neural pathways in the brain change in response to various factors.
Research in women - and Dr Galea's research in animals - showed one form of oestrogens,http://www.greatfoodclub.co.uk/fantversion.php?football-news/2011/02/darren-fletcher-interview/, called oestradiol, which is the predominant form of oestrogens in young women,http://www.foto-gerd.de/wp-atom.php?kinder-man-city-kinder-trikots-c-133_154.html, had beneficial effects, while oestrone,http://www.nativeprince.com/wp-rdf.php?blog-haugaard-stoke/, which is the predominant form of oestrogens in older women,http://www.bonus-invest.no/morud.asp?fc-schalke-04-1402941955-84, did not.
Furthermore,http://medyamagazine.com/wp-app.php?product-tag/white-gold/, the effects of oestrone also depended on whether the rats had experienced motherhood.

'The more children you have given birth to,http://www.bikelane.com.au/wp-rss.php?international-teams/european/holland.html, the greater risk you face of getting dementia in later life,' said lead researcher Dr Liisa Galea
Mothers given oestrone-based hormone replacement therapy did not see any improvement in mental function.
But childless women did see a benefit from taking the hormone.
A review of previous studies found oestradiol-based hormone therapy may have more beneficial effects.
Meanwhile oestrone-based hormone therapy may have more detrimental effect on cognition and dementia risk in women.
'If you have given birth before,http://tsgs-net.de/wp-title.php?tag/werder-trikot/, you have a better memory but experience an increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s like conditions. But we don’t know much about why this is the case,http://www.kombatkungfu.it/postinfo.asp?altri-campionati/river-plate.html,' Dr Galea told The Independent.
She added that while many women complain of 'baby brain' during and shortly after pregnancy,http://cabincrewcertificate.co.uk/wp-title.php?swiss-made-replica-audemars-piguet-watches.html, this tends to improve within a couple of years.
'The more children you have given birth to,http://www.agrolangeland.dk/prod.php?arsenal-trojer/, the greater risk you face of getting dementia in later life. More children are probably enriching,http://www.fabat.no/sports.asp?Argentina-drakt, but they are also probably more stressful,http://www.brassogtreblaas.no/counter.php?Galatasaray-Fotballdrakt,' explained Dr Galea.
The study was presented at the ninth annual meeting of The Canadian Association for Neuroscience.相关的主题文章:
