I have watched the video replay repeatedly and gone back to Richard Gleber's perfect photo of third baseman Patrick McRaney applying the decisive title-clinching tag and all I can do is shake my head in amazement.
But to be honest, maybe I shouldn't be surprised. Maybe I'm selling the Rockachaws short.

Once the season got going, it was hard to find flaws in the Rockachaws. They were deep on the mound with two starters headed to NCAA Tournament-bound college programs. The Rocks consistently had players ranked among the Coast's leaders in batting average, home runs and RBIs. "This group of guys have been playing together since seventh grade. "This is definitely the best way to go out. Any other way probably ends in tears."
And then in Game 2 of the Class 4A series Houston pushed back. Trailing 5-1 with one out to go, the Toppers rallied. Representing the game-tying run, Reid Carter laced a ball off the right field wall and dug in for third. Right fielder Adam Guillot relayed the throw to Nicaud,http://medyamagazine.com/layout-styles.php?img/shop/, who had run deep into the outfield. The second baseman calmly spun and delivered a perfect one-hop ball to McRaney just in the nick of time.
If that ball landed anywhere else -- or hit the lip of the grass -- who knows what would have
happened.
Playing the what-if game, however, is a futile exercise because Nicaud's throw was true.
"I don't know how to describe it. You always talk about getting here. This is (about) my 20th year and for the longest time you never think you're going to make it," SSC coach Mark Logan said after the win. "We talked about it before the game. There's a lot of good coaches and good players who never make it to this point. We've been lucky to do it twice and have been lucky enough to win both times."
That same sentiment of relief was echoed by Logan's players. After eliminating Houston, an exhausted Guillot put his arms around Nicaud.
